Trekking in Slovenian Alps

Itinerario

Day 1: ARRIVAL TO LJUBLJANA

Arrival to Ljubljana airport. Transfer from the airport to the hotel. The first night you will spend in the hotel in Ljubljana to meet other hikers and the guide. He will take you over the information about your upcoming hikes in the Slovenian Alps. Accommodation in Ljubljana.

Day 2: LJUBLJANA – VELIKA PLANINA – BLED

After breakfast, you will depart from Ljubljana for your first hike of the week. You will visit the Velika planina plateau (1666 m) in the Kamnik-Savinja Alps – one of the three main mountain ranges of the Slovenian Alps. During the 4,5h – 5h of walking you will pass several settlement areas full of cute herders’ dwellings where you can refresh and try local cheese called trnič, also known as “the cheese of love”. Ask your guide why is that. After the visit of shepherds’ village, you will descent back to the valley in a cable car and be transferred to the alpine village of Bled. Accommodation in Bled.

Trekking in the Slovenian Alps - Ljubljana & Velika planina

Day 3: BLED – POKLJUKA – PLANIKA HUT

Breakfast after a good night’s sleep. In the morning, transfer to the Pokljuka plateau (1340 m), where you will start your hike to the heart of Julian Alps – the most beautiful mountain range of the Slovenian Alps. Enjoy the beautiful views over the alpine valleys and some of the highest peaks of Slovenia towering in front of you. Your guide will point out Mt. Triglav (2864 m) which is the highest peak and symbol of Slovenia. The path will take you along sloping meadows and fresh streams where you can refill your bottle. After approx. 3h you will get to the first mountain hut Vodnikov dom (1817 m) where you can get some rest. After lunch the hike continues for another 1,30h – 2h towards your final destination of the day: the mountain hut Planika (2401 m) just under the peak of Triglav where you will spend the night. Dinner at the hut.

Day 4: PLANIKA HUT – KANJAVEC – HRIBARICE – PREHODAVCI

After breakfast in the hut, you will hike towards one of the most beautiful valleys in the Slovenian Alps, Triglav lakes valley. Since there will be no mountain huts on our way, you will need to bring lunch with you. First you will hike up to the Dolic pass (2151 m) and from there continue towards the peak of Kanjavec (2568 m). From the pass under Hribarice (2495 m), you will continue your hike to the mountain hut of at Prehodavci (2071 m) located at the top end of Triglav Lakes Valley. Dinner in the mountain hut.

Day 5: PREHODAVCI – TRIGLAV LAKES VALLEY – KOMNA

After breakfast, you will start descending along the Triglav Lakes Valley, also known also as Seven Lakes valley. You can expect a beautiful hike passing several small lakes, which makes great stops for rest and photo shooting. At the end of the valley, the group will make a longer stop at the mountain hut where you can have lunch. Later we will continue along the plateau towards Komna (1520 m), your last destination in the mountains. Dinner at Komna and overnight.

Day 6: KOMNA – VOGEL – BOHINJ – LJUBLJANA

After breakfast in the mountain hut it’s time for our last hike in the Slovenian Alps. After crossing several mountains peaks you finally get to Vogel (1540 m), where you can have lunch and some free time to enjoy the views over the lake Bohinj and the valley beneath you. In the afternoon, descent in cable car to the lake Bohinj and transfer to Ljubljana. Accommodation in Ljubljana.

Walking time: approx. 5,5h – 6h + rests; Altitude difference: ↑ 700 m ↓ 720 m

Trekking in the Slovenian Alps

Day 7: LJUBLJANA

After breakfast, guided tour of Ljubljana. On a walk through the old town you will pass through the congress building, the national library, the cathedral, the main square “Prešernov trg”, the Triple Bridge and the Bridge of the Dragons, the symbol of the city. Then you can go up to the Ljubljana castle, either on foot, or by funicular, and from there enjoy the views over Ljubljana and the mountains that you see in the distance. Free time in the afternoon. You will be able to experience flavors of Slovenia in one of the restaurants on the banks of the Ljubljanica river or, enjoy the street music that plays in many corners. Accommodation in Ljubljana.

Day 8: LJUBLJANA – DEPARTURE

Breakfast in the hotel and departure transfer to the airport or the train/bus station.

NEED TO KNOW

This is an escorted tour. You will be travelling in a small group with other passengers (minimum 4) and a bilingual tour guide (English/Spanish).

If there are less than four hikers confirmed, the tour will be self-guided.
